DIOCESAN PLANNING FOR EXCELLENCE

Diocesan Planning for Excellence is a step-by-step planning guide for use by dioceses and focuses on the most common areas of planning:

  • Diocesan mission and priorities
  • Parish planning, for new parishes as well as merging or closing parishes
  • Catholic school planning, for new schools as well as merging or closing schools
  • Internal diocesan organization planning (alignment or reorganization)

Diocesan Planning for Excellence presents a framework for managing the planning in these key areas, guided by the basic principles of good strategic planning and the pastoral vision of Vatican II. A blueprint lays out the individual steps in the process. Along the way, tools are provided to help planners with each step.

The individual modules within Diocesan Planning for Excellence can be used to help prepare separate planning efforts or can be combined to create an overall initiative spanning the different facets of the Diocese.

Permission is granted to dioceses to download this guide from www.ChurchEpedia.org and to utilize the planning worksheets, agendas, and toolkit resources as part of a diocesan pastoral planning process.

For ease of printing, the main booklets are presented as PDF files. In addition, the deliverables and tools are offered as Word or Excel documents so that they can be customized with appropriate names, titles and dates.

The Leadership Roundtable and its partners provide the opportunity for dioceses to consult with planning experts or facilitators for your planning process.  For further information, please contact Jim Lundholm-Eades or call (612) 599-0627.  The Leadership Roundtable’s online forum provides a further opportunity to raise questions and access expertise relating to best practices in all aspects of strategic pastoral planning.
