Catholic Church could benefit from worldly business expertise

San Jose Mercury News - Letters Page

This letter is in response to “Catholic Church could benefit from worldly business expertise,” which was published on December 18, 2006.

Bishop McGrath and the Diocese of San Jose strongly support the goals and work of the National Leadership Roundtable on Church Management. In fact, the Diocese of San Jose is featured prominently in the DVD project to which Tom Healey refers for our “best practices” in Diocesan Planning . Bishop McGrath and diocesan leadership are committed to increasing management capability and accountability in our diocese, parishes, and other institutions.

We are proud to be among the four Santa Clara County founding members of the 180 member national Round Table.

Sr. Pat Mitchell, SFCC
Director, Office of Parish and Planning
Diocese of San Jose

Don Watters
Director Emeritus, McKinsey and Company
Consultant, Diocese of San Jose

(The other two Roundtable members from Santa Clara County are Chuck Geschke, Co-Founder and Chairman of the Board of Adobe Systems, Inc., and Fr. Paul Locatelli, SJ, President of Santa Clara University.)
